Vergelegen

Vergelegen, meaning situated “far away”, was granted to the Governor of the Cape in 1700. This historic property is now coming into its own as a showpiece of South Africa’s recent wine renaissance.
Winemaker, André Van Rensburg, has won numerous awards for the Vergelegen wines including the Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Trophy in 2001 and 2003. Voted New World Winery of the Year by Wine Enthusiast magazine in the USA in 2005, Vergelegen has also been nominated the “Best South African Winery’ by the readers of Wine Magazine for five successive years from 2004 to 2008.

In the making of wine a simple philosophy is followed. There must be harmony between the old and the new. Simplicity is combined with rigorous selection and infinite attention to detail and craftsmanship in the holistic pursuit of wines that are an expression of terroir. Following two decades of vineyard development and viticulture refinements, the team have been able to identify the individual vineyards and varietals that best express this great estate.
