History and Tradition
Grant Burge is a fifth-generation Barossan vigneron and winemaker, who throughout his career has been one of the most respected and innovative forces in the Australian wine industry.
The fascinating history of the Burge family and their long association with winemaking in the Barossa can be traced back to March 1855, when noted tailor, John Burge, his wife Eliza and their two sons immigrated from Hillcot, near Pewsey in Wiltshire, England to the Barossa Valley.
Family Owned
Grant Burge Wines was formed in 1988 by Grant and his wife, Helen, and is based at the historic, Cellar Door, on the banks of Jacobs Creek, in the heart of the Barossa Valley. The Cellars are one of the most successful and popular in the area, and have together with the wines has been awarded many accolades. Currently, Grant Burge Wines is considered a medium-sized Australian wine company, producing around 350,000 cases a year, and is still proudly family owned.
Now Grant Burge brings the sixth generation into the fold, with all three of his and Helen's children being an integral part of the company. Toby is now the Vineyard Manager, upholding the quality and consistency of the fruit from our vineyards. Amelia joined the Marketing department in an assistant role early in 2007. And Trent has been a part of the hardworking cellar team at the Illaparra Winery since vintage 2006.
