Cheval Noir
The Cheval Noir brand name was first registered in 1895 and this wine has been a thoroughbred of the Mähler-Besse stable for over 60 years. This famous brand takes its name from the Cheval Noir estate in the western part of the Saint-Emilion appellation (in a place named Rivalon) acquired by Mähler-Besse in 1937. Thanks to rigorous efforts in the vineyard and cellars, quality is consistently good whatever the vintage. Cheval Noir is made from carefully selected vats of wine chosen for their classic Saint-Emilion style. Its reliable quality is appreciated by wine lovers around the world, and sales of Cheval Noir are in constant progression. This wine is full-bodied, well-structured, and has great ageing potential. Mähler-Besse also ensure that their No. 1 brand has good international distribution. Grown on 2 of the 5 hectares of the original Mähler-Besse estate,“Le Fer”, a prestige cuvée made from 100% Merlot grapes, was produced starting with the 98 vintage.
