History and Heritage going back to 1725
Barton & Guestier was founded by Thomas Barton, a young Irish man who emigrated from his native country to Bordeaux in the beginning of the 18th century. In 1725 he set up his own wine-shipping company. Very quickly his efforts brought an unbelievable level of prosperity and by 1747 he was considered as Bordeaux’s number one shipper, which gave him the nickname of “French Tom”. He was also the first shipper to have his own wine estates.
